MACD Awards

The Michigan Association of Conservation Districts annually recognizes the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations. 

Award recipients are chosen from the nominations received from Michigan Conservation Districts and partners.   

MACD is pleased to announce the 2018 Award Winners! 

Director of the Year Award 

MACD honored Mike Day, Secretary/Treasurer of the Tuscola Conservation District with the 2018 Director of the Year Award.  This Award to recognizes the outstanding contributions of a Conservation District director; one who has provided strong leadership, advocacy and promotion of conservation practices within their community. Michigan's Conservation Districts are the local providers of natural resource management services that help our citizens conserve their lands and our state's resources for a cleaner, healthier and economically stronger Michigan.

A long standing board member, Mike Day has been a director of the Tuscola Conservation District for 15 years. During his tenure, Mike has been a leader in the development and growth of quality programs to benefit agricultural producers, landowners and managers within the county. He is available 24-7, helping with program implementation and promotion, volunteering at various functions and through his role as Secretary/Treasurer, keeping the financial condition of the District strong.

Friend of Conservation Award

MACD honored Jon Beard and Mark Coscarelli of Public Sector Consultants with the 2018 Friend of Conservation Award. MACD annually presents the Friend of Conservation Award to recognize the outstanding contributions of an individual or organization for their efforts to improve the public's understanding of natural resource conservation, for participation in conservation practices in cooperation with a Conservation District, and to further the mission of Michigan Conservation Districts. 

Jon Beard and Mark Coscarelli, both employees of Public Sector Consultants, have been integral in assisting the Clinton Conservation District in the Maple River Watershed to improve the health and education of citizens. With their help, the District has developed a targeted outreach plan for citizens living in this impaired watershed, and they have helped inform local public policy through work on an innovative septic system maintenance ordinance for the three-county health department region. Public Sector Consultants are leaders in helping move conservation forward in Michigan and are a great asset to Michigan Conservation Districts.

Michigan Envirothon District of the Year

MACD honored the Leelanau Conservation District with the Michigan Envirothon District of the Year Award. MACD presents this award to recognize the outstanding contributions of a Conservation District to further the mission of Michigan Envirothon to inspire environmental stewardship in Michigan's high school students, fostering an appreciation of our environment in today's students and tomorrow's leaders!
